Cost of your care
An important consideration for anyone arranging any kind of care and/or support is funding. For many looking at the available funding options can be a daunting task. Walker & Harrison Care can guide you through the process so that you can understand what funding you may be entitled to.
Funding options:
Social care funding
You may be eligible to social care funding through your local authority. This is also known as a personal budget. A personal budget allows you to be involved in the decisions relating to your care. Social care funding is means tested and requires a form to be completed so that your local authority can do a financial assessment on your own personal circumstances.
A personal budget is means tested so depending on your circumstances you may be required to contribute financially to your overall costs. The best way to find out would be to contact your local authority and request a financial assessment, once completed they will be able to confirm with you the amount they will provide to help fund your care.
Once established there is a number of ways in which your funding can be used.
You can choose to let the local authority arrange your care with one of the care providers they work closely with, they will pay the care provider directly and liaise with them in arranging your package of care and fulfilling your needs.
You can choose a Care Provider of your choice and request what is called a direct payment, this way you are more involved in your own care and can make decisions regarding your care. A direct payment can be made from your local authority a number of ways.
You can choose to have the money paid directly to you or your loved one and set up a direct debit with your chosen care provider. This way of paying works excellent for some people however, other people find the prospect of managing the funding of their own care daunting.
You can choose to use a direct payment support trust. The local authority will then send the trust your personal budget directly, your chosen care provider will invoice the trust, and you can sit back and not have to worry.
If you are eligible for social funding, we can advise how this can be used to implement the care and/or support you need to be able to continue to live at your own home safely giving your loved ones the peace of mind that you are safe and content.
Private Funding
You can choose a Home Care Provider yourself or with your loved ones. You can work directly with you chosen provider and pay them via direct debit, bank transfer or cheque.
This way you are in charge of your own care. You will be involved in tailoring your own care plan and your chosen Home Care Provider will liaise with you directly. If you would like a loved one to take control then you would just let your chosen Home Care Provider know and this can be arranged.
Some people who fund their own care privately chose to manage their own Care package but have a loved one deal with the financial side of things.
Regardless of how your support maybe funded, we can help you through the process, we can advise you on how to find out what your eligible for and advise you on how best to use your budget to implement the Care you require.
Cost of your home care
Typically, when we think care we automatically think care homes, huge bills and being forced to sell your family home to pay for it all. Maybe once over this was the case but over previous years the care sector has revolutionised and managing yours or your loved one’s care needs has become possible to do in the comfort of their own home not only is it possible it’s also a lot more affordable than people realise.
The average weekly cost for a residential care home is approximately £700 per week, a resident does not always receive one to one care in fact that is very rarely the case and if it is the case this will be reflected in an increase in the cost.
An independent and impartial online directory published that in 2021 you could expect to pay between £20 and £30 per hour for one to one home care. The area you live may have an effect on the price, but this is an average price you could expect to pay. Summing up, if you require 2 hours home care per day at the rate of £25 per hour it would cost £350 per week.
That is a significant difference in cost. It is also a significant difference in the type of care you or your loved one will receive. With a Home Care Provider, you or your loved one would receive one to one support when you require it, in the comfort of your own home. Your whole package of care will be tailored, with you, to your own unique needs and preferences.
This does not mean that Home Care or Domiciliary Care, as it is formerly known as is, in any way superior to residential care or nursing care. Sometimes residential care is the best and safest option for someone. If we could not safely manage the needs of you or your loved one in your own home, we would always be transparent about this and discuss with you your options.
Walker & Harrison Care is committed to providing high quality care at a low cost. We have a standard hourly rate of £20.50. We do have flexible rates for 30 minutes or 45-minute visits. Likewise, we promise to always maintain our transparency, so if we think you do not need something we will always let you know. We are dedicated to keeping the cost to our service users to a minimum and will work together to ensure you only receive what you need.
